Bus and MRT Guide in your iPhone If you have an iPhone or an iPod Touch, and you don’t have this already. GET IT. It’s free and it’s aided me in traveling around Singapore more than I can count.
Short Story: It’s the Singapore Bus Guide all loaded onto your device, with search functions.
Long Story: It will help you get around Singapore in so many ways, and save so much time. Here are my favorite features:
1. Search through a bus list.
2. See bus details (like first and last bus).
3. See bus route. Inlcudes bus stop numbers, which can be used in conjunction with IRIS.
Find out when your bus is arriving If want to know when the bus is coming, all you need is the bus stop number and IRIS, SBS Transit’s Intelligent Route Information System.
Long Story: You can get the bus stop number by looking at the sign here
Or checking the bus guide or a service like SGtransport. The internet versions of IRIS also provides a crude way of finding the bus stop without the number.
Once you have the bus stop details, you have 3 options.
2. You’re outside and you have a smartphone Visit www.sbstransit.com.sg/mobileiris on your smartphone. Take note this will incur some data charges if you do not have a data plan.
3. You’re outside and you can’t or don’t want to use the internet. SMS (Bus Stop Number) space (Service Number) to 74744. You’ll be charged $0.05 for this. More>
gothere.sg It's been around for a while, and it's pretty well known. But here's a quick run through, in case you haven't heard of this. Short Story: gothere.sg plans the best journey for your needs. All you need to do is key in the start and end point.
Long Story: gothere.sg fills the gap that once was the territory of streetdirectory.com. After that site was disallowed from providing it's travel planning service, we were left hanging.
And it's simple too.
Key in the start and end points
Out comes the instructions
You can choose how you want to travel, by bus only, bus+train, car or taxi. Each provides you with sub options such as the fastest/cheapest route, or if you want to avoid the ERP.
Then you also have a zoom-able map. Just like google's. Cos it's powered by google. Don't forget you can switch to satellite view too. Just note the picture may be a little old and out dated.
Give it a go, I use it for almost all my travel now. There's a mobile version too, so just key gothere.sg into your portable internet device and you'll be able to access it on the move.More>
